Grip & Pull Strength

One of the biggest success stories so far with online OCR Yancy Camp clients is how more and more athletes are completing obstacles that used to give them fits. It’s no secret that a lack of grip & pull strength and grip & pull strength endurance is by far the biggest factor that leads to the highest percentage of obstacle failure. Here’s the deal crew, if you decide you’re ready to make the commitment to taking your grip and pull strength to the next level, that’s exactly what you’ll do. It takes consistent focus though! There’s two necessities each and every one of you need to have in your arsenal. 1) you need a hand gripper than you can keep in your car, take with you on runs, have with you at work, etc. You’ve seen how I program the use of a hand gripper in to the training and you need to make the gripper a regular part of your weekly routine. I use mine appx 5 times a week and it has been a game changer for me. I completed the double rig at Spartan World Championships with confidence and I tackled every obstacle at OCRWC this year with no near misses. Throughout 2013 & 2014 I didn’t have as much confidence in my grip and pull strength and the simple reason is the fact that I wasn’t focused on making it happen! If you don’t have a hand gripper, get one today! I like my inexpensive Harbinger device that has a 30, 40, & 50lb head attachment.
2) you need to purchase the Yancy Camp Mobile Grip & Pull Strength Trainer. This is not a sales pitch. This is me simply telling you that it works. I designed and filed patents for this device because of the strong need to help my athletes maximize their time during running workouts, and provide them with a wearable/adjustable device they can use no matter where they are. You’ll see me program something simple like – 60min run: every 5min – pull up x 1, 10sec hang, continue repeating until forced to drop. This device allows you to do this no matter where you’re running. Well, unless you live in the desert with no trees or other areas where there are no horizontal structures to hang the device from. Long story short, you can use it just about anywhere. It’ll improve your ability to complete monkey bars, rigs, rope climbs, walls, all traverse obstacles, heavy carries, etc.

Two inexpensive simple devices that’ll help you conquer more obstacles. If we can to increase our chances at conquering all the obstacles, we have to improve our grip and pull strength and grip and pull strength endurance. It truly is this simple. Don’t ever let yourself say, “my upper body is just weak”. I started training Spartan Pro Team athlete Becca Clifford last year. She was doing appx 2-3 pull-ups when we stated. No she can knock out 15 strict pull-ups. I promise to keep plenty of grip and pull strength programmed in to your workouts. You just have to promise me you do it all as well as sprinkling additional time in with these two devices and other methods of working this area. It’ll be a game changer for you! Let’s have a huge 2016…
