Yancy Camp Workout 529

Recently I was involved in a discussion between a group of people who believed a certain way about a political topic and an individual who had a different belief than the group. The group was very passionate about their belief and because the individual was voicing things that didn’t align with them, they became aggressive and took a demeaning bullying type stance. Strong leaders are those who lift others up even when they disagree with them. Strong leaders encourage healthy communication. They speak and listen with a level of respect for the person or group that disagrees with them. While someone or a group is flaming situations with anger and disrespect, great leaders put out fires and bring opposing sides together. Great leaders coach common ground and help people understand or maybe just learn to respect opposing sides. Even when disagreement separates two groups or people, respect can be maintained. Often times politicians will work hard to create divide between two different groups because they stand to benefit from polarizing their base. Corruption and dishonesty exists on both side in large part because of greed and desire for power. If I ever find myself passionately believing one way about something to the point where I’m getting heated about the subject/topic, I try to hit the pause button and calm down. I try hard to never allow myself to get in to an argument with anyone. I’ll have healthy conversation with anyone about anything and unless they are trying to physically harm me or my family on the spot, I will maintain a level of respect for the person/group as I work to help them understand my points of view. Be a great listener even when you’re hearing stuff you don’t agree with. Don’t be so quick to judge. There are so many unique historical reasons why some believe the way they do and it can be very helpful when you allow yourself to hear their reasons. Often times, it’ll help you structure what you say and how you say it. You might even find yourself thinking a little different after the great conversation you helped make happen. I challenge you to be a peaceful voice or reason. Don’t be afraid to communicate, just be peaceful and productive. Much love – Yancy
